This Just In: If We Compromise on Education, We Jeopardize Our Future. It’s Time to Expect More.
You’ve seen the stories about education in Arizona; you’ve probably written and produced many of them. Arizona students are falling behind their national and international peers in academic performance, high school graduation rates and postsecondary degree attainment. And the gap is only widening between the preparedness of our graduates, and the skills and knowledge employers require. Although incremental change in student preparedness will deliver powerful results for our students and our state, we need transformational change that opens the door to opportunities and ensures a highly skilled workforce far into the future.
Arizona’s future leaders are in today’s cradles and classrooms. As other states and nations become more competitive and successful at producing highly skilled individuals, it’s more critical than ever to expect more of our own education system and the results it delivers.
More and more, our statewide dialogue focuses on a small handful of hot-button issues. Many of these issues are important to Arizonans and our state, but tend to overshadow the significant challenges facing Arizona schools. At Expect More Arizona, we aim to increase the public dialogue dedicated to raising awareness of education issues and working toward solutions.
