The question arises whether or not tests and papers are a complete measure of what students know and can do. This webinar will focus on other ways to assess student learning that is learner-centered where students can effectively demonstrate what they’ve learned.

Description: “Taking Steps Towards College Success” is the first Walk-a-thon in Arizona that provides the opportunity for all Arizonans to have direct access to college going materials and to ignite and motivate the masses on the importance of supporting and promoting higher education. The second annual event will take place on Sunday September 26, 2010 and will begin with a college-going resource fair at Margaret T. Hance Park and will culminate at the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) College fair the Phoenix Convention Center. This event will encourage, enrich and enhance each family member’s chance of becoming college bound, focused and prepared.

Description: Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards:

One of the most important and lasting influences in a child’s life is his or her teacher. Teachers unlock the minds of our children and provide the essential foundation they need to become productive and successful members of the community. Realizing the important work teachers complete in difficult environments, Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC) made the decision to honor this group of unsung heroes. Established in 1999, CPLC along with its corporate and community partners initiated the Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards; which when translated means “hope” Teacher Awards. This prestigious event recognizes outstanding Latino educators who are in essence, the hope for future generations.

Nomination and Selection Process :

Any teacher, principal, or superintendent can nominate an educator who meets the criteria in the section below to be an Esperanza Latino Teacher Award winner. Nominees must submit the application by August 13, 2010, and sent to the following address:

* Possess a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate;
