New Report Sheds Light on Math Deficiencies of US Students

by Expect More Arizona

A new study released by Education Next finds that American students across the board trail their global peers in math skills. The researchers say they focused the study on math because it “appears to be the subject in which accomplishment in secondary school is particularly significant for both an individual’s and a country’s economic well-being.”

Even the top performing state, Massachusetts, trails the global competition in math skills, while Arizona is ranked 32nd in the nation and is “significantly outperformed” by 33 countries.

As part of its “Education Nation” series, NBC News produced the following news story, which illustrates the disparity and the need for improved math education nationwide.
